Kuwait Food Inspection Campaigns Continue

Director of Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Sabeeh affirmed on Saturday continuation of surprise inspection campaigns on all warehouses, cooperative societies, supermarkets, coffee shops as well as butcher shops.
Al-Sabeeh told KUNA that the municipal authorities will not be lenient toward transgression of the law or regulations of the municipality, adding that the intensified inspection campaigns are aimed at taking punitive action against various abuses and violations related to food products that cause adverse effects and serious harm to health and safety of consumers.
The inspection campaigns are held during morning and afternoon shifts, thus reflecting the municipal inspection teams' readiness round the clock in order to combat the offenders.
These campaigns aim to check production and expiration dates of the product, as well as its ingredients, he said.
Al-Sabeeh lauded the inspection campain launched by the Municipality of Al-Jahra Governorate in cooperation with the Public Relations' department at the municipality and security support from the directorate of security at Al-Jahra, on the Fish Market as well as a number of other markets and food shops in Al-Jahra industrial zone.
The inspection campaign, among its latest works, recorded 12 violations and issued six warnings over unedible products.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the inclusion of dates, particularly the Al-Khalas and Al-Barhi varieties, in the ration card for citizens, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.
Sources explained the ministry took this step after completing a market study on selling dates in the subsidized food distribution centers, provided these dates are produced by local farmers.  Sources confirmed this is one of the steps taken by the ministry to support local products.
